The Challenge
Eyedentity needed a modern online presence that could showcase a diverse eyewear catalogue — photochromic, polarized, anti-blue light, prescription readers, and optical frames — while converting visitors into buyers without a traditional shopping cart. Customers in Zimbabwe primarily transact via WhatsApp and EcoCash rather than card checkout, so the entire purchase flow had to be built around that reality. They also needed a content engine to drive organic search traffic and establish authority in the local eyewear market.
The Solution
We built a Django-powered e-commerce site with a WhatsApp-first ordering model. Every product generates a customisable WhatsApp message including the product code, price, savings, stock urgency, and a direct product link — no cart or checkout required. The system includes a session-based wishlist that lets customers curate multiple items and send a single bulk order message. A full blog platform with categories, tags, comments, and read-time estimation drives SEO. Product management supports gallery images, sale pricing with automatic discount calculation, lens type classification, and per-product WhatsApp message customisation.
